St Joseph's Church, Diocese of Sokoto

Our council is very pleased to have had the opportunity to provide monetary aid to St Joseph's Church in the Diocese of Sokoto in the Ecclesiastical province of Kaduna in Nigeria.

Brother Knight James Mino put us in contact with Father Habila Meyere to provide assistance after a storm severely damaged St Joseph's Church. At first it appeared like a collapsed roof was to be repaired. However, further inspection revealed that a complete rebuild of the church was required.

Below is an excerpt from an email from Father Habila Mayere:

St Joseph Catholic church is a local Church with 99% of its parishioners as peasant farmers. We are very poor here. We can not raise funds for the rebuilding of a new church that's why we contacted the honourable Knight of St Columbus to help us with some financial assistance.

We have received with thanks the generous support and contributions of the Knight of St Columbus towards the rebuilding of our church.

We sincerely thank you all for your financial support towards building a befitting house of worship for God.

Lastly, our doors are still open for more funding and support towards the new church project. As it is now, the project has stopped because of lack of funding. We do not have money to continue with the project. . . .

But we hope and trust in God. We pray to God to send more men and women of good will to come and support us.

As of April 21, 2021, progress has stopped at laying the foundation because of lack of funds. Approximately $107,000 (USD) is still required to complete the project.
