Charitable Operations

The major objectives that are fulfilled to various degrees by our charitable operations are:

  • Building the Church
  • Building the Community
  • Building and strengthening Fraternity among our members
  • Building and strengthening our members’ families
  • Fundraising to aid those in need

Programs and Beneficiaries

Our Council Programs are many and varied and benefit many different organizations and individuals. Please use the links provided to Programs and Beneficiaries.

Covid-19: During the Covid-19 pandemic, our operations have been impacted (particularly during the lockdown), but we have striven to safely continue activities to support our community and the world at large. We are grateful to the community that has been extremely supportive during this difficult time.

Funds

The Knights of Columbus council 12392 uses both fundraising activities and a portion of membership dues to support our Church, various charitable organizations, communities, families and individuals. The council thanks the community and our membership for their generous support of our activities, and pledge to be good stewards of the treasure of the community and our membership.

Time and Talent

In addition to monetary support, the council membership also provides their time and talent to support our community and those in need. This also gives our members opportunities for their families to participate.

We can always use volunteers to help with our charitable programs. Please look through our charitable programs to see if anything interests you. Your donation of time, talent, or treasure would be greatly appreciated.

  • If you are a practicing Catholic man and not a Knight of Columbus, and any of these programs moves you to be more interested in joining the Knights of Columbus, you can contact us using the Contact Us page, or through one of the numbers provided in the Knights Corner of the St Joan of Arc bulletin.
  • If you are already a Knight of Columbus, you may find something in our list of Charitable Programs that you don’t recall hearing about, but interests you. You may wish to focus on a program for which the whole family may volunteer. Come to a council or officers meeting or contact our Grand Knight for more information.
  • Even if you have no interest in becoming a Knight, many of our programs can benefit from additional volunteers beyond our normal member volunteers. Look for announcements and contact information in the Knights Corner of the St Joan of Arc bulletin, or use the Contact Us page.

Operating Expenses

Most of the income to the council is used for charitable purposes. Operating expenses and fraternal activities are primarily supported by dues. Operating expenses include our website, our online shop, fraternal activities such as food and beverages at events, postage, awards for outstanding members and their families, publishing fees, and dues to the Denver Metro Area, State and Supreme Councils. Most members pay dues to cover these expenses. There are those for whom we waive dues such as long-serving members, those on Active Military Duty, students, and those who find themselves unable to afford dues for a period of time.

Fund Raising

There are several major fundraising activities in which the council engages. These include Peach and Pear Sales, Pancake Breakfast and Burrito Sales, Salsa Sales, the Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities, Oktoberfest, Sleeping Bag Drive, Keep Christ in Christmas, and the Deacon Hugh donation drive. All or a much of the funds in each of these activities are targeted to support specific organizations or individuals. Excess funds raised by a given event are redirected to benefit other charitable programs for which we do not have direct fundraising events.

Terminology

The terms “net proceeds” and “excess funds” are used in the descriptions of our charitable operations. Net proceeds are the final funds from fundraisers after expenses are deducted from revenue and donations for a particular operation or event. Excess funds are the funds that are available after deducting the budgeted donation to a targeted organization. Excess funds are used to fund other charitable operations for which there are no designated fundraisers.
