Marshall and Middle Fork Fire Response
Overview
Council 12392 of St Joan of Arc Church reacted quickly to determine how we might help with relief efforts for those affected by the Marshall and Middle Fork Fires. Our Grand Knight Gary Tuka contacted the Grand Knight of the St Louis Parish Council and offered our council's assistance. That day, 12/31, we delivered (50) $50 Walmart gift cards.
We quickly enabled online donations for the Relief Fund through our online shop. We also provided opportunity for donors to leave prayers, which we have collected online. Attendeses of the January Burrito/Pancake Breakfast also provided prayers and messages on postcards. We collected a little more than $4600 in online donations.
We received a little more than $1800 in cash donations delivered to individual Knights or through the St Joan of Arc Parish office.
During our January Burrito/Pancake Breakfast/Sales we received over $3500 (after expenses). This included many generous donations above and beyond the purchase of food.
Our February Salsa Sales generated over $1300 from sales and donations. In addition, we received $500 in McDonald's gift cards. We kept some of these fund in reserve so that our Disaster Relief fund is now at $500.
We have stayed in contact with the State Council response team's Coordinator of Disaster Relief and Volunteer Efforts, Jason Pasionek (State Warden) to asssure that we are providing funds and manpower in the most efficient manner posible. That team is coordinating the response for the Knights of Columbus. Jason and the State Deputy, Jon Herovitz, can be contacted via This email address is being protected from spambots. If you prefer to donate through the State Council, checks may be written to Colorado State Charities with Fire/Disaster Relief in the memo line. Please send to Claude Trujillo, Jr., PSD 505 Columbia Avenue Del Norte, CO 81132.
In addition, the Archdiocese of Denver has setup a relief fund. Click here to donate to that fund.
Finally, we know that the power of prayer is a mighty thing and ask that you pray with us for our brothers and sisters who have been affected by these fires and that our efforts to help may prove fruitful for the glory of God.
Donations via Council 12392
Total Raised: over $13700 (as of 8:00 AM 2/10/2022) Total Released: $13700 (as of 2/10/2022)
The distribution of the funds was:
- $7750 to St Louis Council and Parish in Louisville in the form of $3000 in gift cards and $4750 in cash.
- $6450 to the KofC Colorado State Marshall Fire Fund
The Council raised funds for donation in several ways. Donations were collected and then released periodically. Our current plan is to forward cash and online donations given outside of events to the State Fund for distribution. Funds and donations received during events (breakfast and salsa sales) will be distributed in conjunction with the St Louis Council in Louisville in whatever appears to be the best method at the time - most likely as gift cards. We will adjust our plans for how best to donate as the need arises.
- Salsa Sales preceding the Fire were collected into our Disaster Relief Fund. On 12/31/2021, we purchased and delivered (50) $50 Walmart gift cards to help displaced neighbors immedialely purchase essentials.
- We enabled online donations and have been receiving cash donations for the Relief Fund on through our online shop. Collection thus far is $6450
- Our Pancake Breakfast and Burrito Sales proceeds. This was hosted in conjunction with the Youth Group. After expenses, the net receipts were in excess of $3500.
- Our January 22/23 Salsa Sales proceeds were in excess of $1300.
- We received a donation of (20) $25 McDonald's gift cards that were donated through the St Louis Council in Louisville, CO
- We used some of the new donations to return our general Disaster Relief Fund to $500 after having used $2500 of it on 12/31/2021 to buy gift cards.
Council Activities
The following activities and effors were made by the Council and State Council:
- We obtained permission from St Joan of Arc Church to store durable goods and food in the Fleur-De-Lis room. Because of the outpouring of donations from the people of Colorado, the distribution centers were overwhelmed in the early days after the fire. However, these donations we're storing will prove useful in the days ahead.
- Several members and wives of members helped with the Candelas Community relief drive to deliver clothes, toys, food and water to various organizations for distribution to victims.
- January 8/9 Pancake Breakfast and Burrito Sales in partnership with the Youth Group. We also collected postcards.from attendees.
- January 22/23 Salsa Sales
- We have been gathering prayers for Marshall and Middle Fork Fire Victims
